This game is not a TBP. This game focuses on you solving different crimes as a detective. Any of the suspects, etc. are NPC's controlled by me.

In the year 4012, America is in the middle of the largest crime wave the world has ever seen. More and more detective agency's have opened up to cash in on the sudden outbreak. Come April 4012, Edward Slumber opens up the Slumber Investigations Agency. So far they've held a good record of 98% success rate. You play as a detective employed by the agency. With criminals at every turn and inexplicable murders at every moment, you'll have to have all your wits about you to make it through.

Spoiler : Gameplay :
Gameplay in SIA is very different to a TBP. 5 detectives are handed a case (Random.org will choose usually, except for the first case which will be handled by the first 5 applicants) which they must solve through deduction. As long as you present your argument well, anyone can be sent to jail. However, don't forget this is a race to see who can catch the culprit first. If you spot something wrong with your opponent's (any of the four other players) deductions, point it out. If they can't disprove your point then the race continues. No matter who gets convicted, the real criminal will always be revealed after the case ends. Be warned, though, a solved case is never reopened. The winner will be in charge of the next case handed to the agency.

Note: All famous detective novels are canon in this world. (Eg. Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, Ms. Marple, Ellery Queen, etc.)

The Office
The office is where non-active detectives spend their time and where people sign up and make in-spoiler tag OOC posts!

Spoiler : Character Signup Sheet :
Username:Obvious.
Character Name:Should also be obvious.
Age:How old your character is.
Appearance:How your character looks. This should also include any items they have on them and where they are.
Reasoning and Personality:How your character thinks and makes deductions. This should affect your judgement and deductions.
Skills:Does your character have any special skills? Can they notice tiny, tiny details like Holmes? Do they have mild ESP? If your character's OP they won't be accepted though.
Weaknesses:Your character must have at least one weakness that's not ridiculous. For example, they could have a phobia of blood but they can't have a phobia of unicorns.
Backstory:Tell me about your characters past.

Spoiler : Rules :
Just follow the basic rules of RP's. Also, try to have reasonable levels of grammar and spelling. Always tpyo check your posts.

Spoiler : Active Detectives :
1. Scratch Noggins
2.Jack Mystere III
3.Shugo Tenshi
4.Leonard Hanes
5.Kouhei Saito

Detectives
Spoiler : Edward Slumber :
Username:Enigma
Character Name:Edward Slumber
Age:52
Appearance:Edward has an appearance like a cross between a stereotypical American tycoon, Hercule Poirot and Dr. Watson. He's rather plump with a balding head of fair brown hair and a mustache. He also wears a brownish "Western mayor" suit and a red tie. However, his eyes remain young with a kind of twinkle in them. His breast pocket contains a single pocketwatch.
Reasoning and Personality:Edward likes to think things through logically but with a hint of lucky guessing. He profoundly likes to add a bit of imagination to his deductions and prefers to show off with more than necessary theatrics whenever he reveals the culprit. He also has mild insanity/mental instability so he says and does strange things occasionally.
Skills:Edward has the skill of looking at all the objects in the room, even the tiniest ones, like pieces of a puzzle. Looking at their details and how they could fit together to explain the crime.
Weaknesses:Edward has an uncanny fear of trains and dogs.
Backstory: Edward Slumber was born in New York city. As a child he always had an obsession with detectives and law. At age 24 he graduated from Oxford university with a degree in law and promptly took the bar exam in America. Failing there he devoted himself to joining the police's homicide division. There he showed an outstanding talent for deduction but very little skill in any other kind of police work. When he eventually lost his job, due to him not being fit enough to continue on in the police force and a liability he tried getting work at a detective agency. Eventually, the Richard Collins detective agency took him in. After a 5 year 95% success rate he finally left the Collins Detective Agency and opened his own.

Spoiler : Scratch Noggins :
Username: Trybien
Character Name: Scratch Noggins
Age:28
Appearance: Casual shirt and grey hoody with blue jeans and tennis Shoes. Mildly long, silky blond hair (Bangs to eye line, sides cover ears, back poofed back). Blue eyes and regular nose. No beard, but sideburns go down to nose ridge length.
Reasoning and Personality: Scratch is content with life, and can take other peoples crap towards him. He likes to cheer people up, and is a favor of the elderly. He is very gentleman like, in a sense of social interactions, but is also a slob and slightly unorganized with his own stuff. Due to his understanding of people, Scratch bases his reasoning on how and why a person does/says a certain thing, then proceeds to place traits on them. Scratch tends to be usually right with these assumptions, especially when backed up with evidence, but can easily be wrong due to the fact that its impossible to read minds.
Skills: Great and reading people by their actions (not perceiving, rather the outright obvious like making specific decisions). This allows him to be especially good at Go Fish, Chess, and Poker. However, he utterly sucks and games such as solitaire.
Weaknesses: Intense phobia of heights. Also extremely afraid of death, so he won't do anything to life threatening.
Backstory: Scratch's parents were both famous psychiatrists of their time and were quite wealthy from doing so. Their motto was "We'll make at least one thing better". Scratch wanted to be like his parents, so at a young age, he was very welcoming to strangers and would go out of his way to make them feel happy. This went on through his high school career, and he even joined his local boy scout troop and attained the highest, most honorable rank, Eagle scout. He was soon accepted into the state college (wherever this takes place). On his first spring break back, he walked in to his parents house to find their mangled bodies spewed out on the floor. This drove his creed to new heights. He decided that he would work to prevent people from reaching a psychological low in which they feel it's necessary to kill another human being. He successfully gets his doctorate and begins work in the field. However, around the time year 4012 rolled around, the criminal rampage was on the high, and the government, for the safety of the psychiatrists, that they retire from their jobs. Scratch, with an empty hole in his heart from losing the only job he felt could help some one was greeted by Edward Slumber and was asked to join his detective agency. Unable to refuse due to his desire to help, Scratch joins and his success with cases made his hole filled again allowing him to once again be content and feeling that he is doing what his late parents would want, helping the weak minded.

Spoiler : Jack Mystere III :
Username: Detective Luke Atmey

Character Name: Jack Mystere III

Age: 21

Appearance: Most of the time he wears a black top hat, a white dress shirt, a black suit jacket, a red bow tie, black trousers, and black dress shoes. He doesn't always wear the same clothes, though, occasionally dressing more casually. Slightly long, smooth black hair. Emerald green eyes and regular nose. No beard. Carries a monocle with a gold rim(he wears it on his eye like with most monocles), a cane with a silver squirrel head on top, a pocket knife which he usually has in his pocket, and a notebook, which he uses for doodles, notes, and puzzles.

Reasoning and Personality: Jack is an egotistical man, happy with the living he's making, and tends to get on people's bad sides. He hates to be bothered for bad reasons. He tends to be very organized. He is, however, not serious all the time, and is kind towards friends. He bases his reasoning on theories he creates by replaying the crime in his head and making thorough searches.

Skills: He is good at spotting details that most people don't notice, therefore he is good at chess, being able to spot when his opponent has left an area open to attack. He isn't very good at card games, though.

Weaknesses: He is afraid of spiders, to the point that he carries a pocket knife to cut their webs with.

Backstory: Jack comes from a family of celebrated detectives, which became quite wealthy from all the cases they took. From these cases, they earned friends and enemies. Jack had eventually gone on to get a lot of cases. One day, when returning home from a case, all of his family fortune had been stolen, and the mansion ransacked. His father had disappeared, leaving him a note. It read that he had to flee the manor as one of his enemies had caught up to him and that he couldn't give more information. He had left Jack something which he was to retrieve in a situation like that. Jack eventually found what was to be left to him, a large amount of case files from past cases. Jack studied them carefully and became the master detective he is now. The note also told him to contact Edward Slumber, an old family friend, in order to find a way to put his detective skills to use. He did so, and got a job at the Slumber Investigations Agency. With this job, he hopes to regain his family wealth, make a name for himself, discover just what happened to his father, and put criminals in prison like his father did.

Spoiler : Shugo Tenshi :
Username: Whirlwind.
Character Name: Shugo Tenshi

Age: 19 (I should make a note, he wouldn't actually be considered a detective. He's still attending classes on that. He just goes to crime scenes under the excuse of being the detective's assistant.)

Appearance: Lanky, with untidy straight black hair. Wearing a normal school uniform.

Reasoning and Personality: He prefers to concentrate on the people, instead of the evidence. Why would this person commit a crime? What reason? And once he finds that, he goes for the kill by trying to exploit any holes created by the psychological burden of murder/crime in general. He also is fond of research.

Skills:He's smart and understands people.

Weaknesses: Due to his backstory, he's now mildly afraid of statues, mildly afraid of fire, and terrified of flaming statues.

Backstory: He graduated from the school I'm too lazy to remember the name of: The one from Requiem of Shadows or something or other. He only saw one case paranormal activity: A flaming, moving statue. Thus the fear. He spent the rest of high-school learning about becoming a detective, instead of a journalist like he always dreamed of being. It was an easy transition, since both use their investigative skills to unlock the truth.

Spoiler : Leonard Hanes :
Username: Drey Wilkins.

Character Name: Leonard Hanes.

Age: 46.

Appearance: An open brown overcoat fastened by a single buckle coupled with tan longs and shoes create a wonderful detective archetype, which is promptly ruined by a brown cowboy hat with red trim and a retracted rim. Leonard's eyes are a sharp green with a silver tint, which are concealed in daylight by his glasses. (which turn mirrored in sunlight) His hair is a lifeless brown which is more grey than brown.

Reasoning and Personality: Leonard normally stands back and lets others do the thinking, absorbing the crime scene and what others say, attempting to piece it all together.

Skills: Leonard is skilled at twisting words and engaging in wordplay. Over his career, he has shown an ability to drag confessions or evidence out of people in the interrogation room. He has standard firearm training - and no more than that.

Weaknesses: Aside from being socially distant, Leonard has acrophobia and slight sexism issues. A more noteworthy problem is his recent addiction to painkillers, which has clouded his thoughts with withdrawal symptoms.

Backstory: Leonard was born and raised in Austin Texas, where he followed his father into law enforcement. After realizing that being a standard officer was boring and monotonous, He went into training to become a detective. A few short years later, he was part of the city investigative team.
Leonard led a fairly successful life as a state detective, until a bigger case arose - concerning a drug dealer who had shot and killed a client. While tailing the dealer, Leonard witnessed the murder of another client before being spotted.

After two attempts on his life - one ending with a bullet finding its way into his side, Leonard was placed into the witness protection program, and sent to the... city... place... Where he joined the Slumber Detective agency until the drug dealer goes to trial in Austin.

Notes: Leonard speaks with a southern accent, is still getting over his addiction to the painkillers he was prescribed after the shooting, and carries a handgun.

Spoiler : Lucia R. Violetta :
Character Name: Lucia R. Violetta (Alias, Real Name Unknown)

Age: Physically 16, Actual Age Unknown, Claims to be "At least 100".

Appearance: A young teenage girl with long dark blue hair and sapphire eyes. Typically wears a top hat and a blue-black ballroom dress. For more casual dress, she wears a simple tuxedo and vest. She carries around a large bag that she uses to carry her evidence, notes, etc. and keeps her most important files in her top hat. She always has a bottle of cyanide pills on-hand, in case she "needs to die quickly".

Backstory: Long ago, Lucia was involved in several bizarre experiments known as "The Prometheus Project". During these experiments, a terrible accident occurred, and as a result, Lucia's body was given incredible regenerative abilities, making her practically immortal. However, all of the scientists and members working on the Project vanished without a trace, and the laboratory soon broke down. Now, "The Prometheus Project" is known to only a handful of people. In order to avoid those who would seek the secrets of her immortality, Lucia changed her name and image every few years and moved from place to place, developing an interest i crime-solving.
She eventually found her way to the SIA and joined out of pure boredom.

Reasoning and Personality: A rather apathetic young girl who cares little for her own safety or well-being. While she typically appears cool and collected on the outside, she is very playful and cruel on the inside. Due to her immortality, she has a rather cynical outlook on life and death, often killing herself repeatedly because it "helps her think". She sees crime-solving as a simple game, and looks to it as a means of passing the time.
During Logic Battles, she will attempt to break down the enemy's argument by "striking the roots to topple the tree"; In other words, destroying the basis of the enemy logic rather than confronting it head-on. She also resorts to rather "trollish" tactics such as distracting the enemy, going off topic, or pushing emotional buttons to get a response.

Skills: Not necessarily a skill, but she has incredible regenerative abilities that make her nigh immortal. She does not typically fight, however, and does not typically need to fight either. Because of her immortality, she often kills herself by jumping off of tall buildings, hanging herself, etc. since she claims it helps her think. Her callous disregard for her own safety occasionally allows her to take a more hands-on approach to crime-solving, such as by imitating a dead body for a brief period of time.

Weaknesses: Her viewpoint is a more analytical one, often ignoring factors such as emotional or irrational behavior. She is a fiercely independent girl, often spurning the advice or help of others, and usually ignores her fellow detectives. She often believes so strongly in her own viewpoints that she can be inflexible, and often lose track of her reasoning if her logic is beaten. She also hates birds.

Spoiler : Kouhei Saito :
Username: GuardianDreamer

Character Name: Kouhei R. Saito

Age: Unknown, but likely about 16-19.

Appearance: Kouhei usually has a neutral, observing expression, though those that get used to him can spot his different expressions, which are rather subtle. Kouhei's hair is somewhat strange, both in style and color. He has neon-pink hair, which he claims is natural. Two strands of his hair stick up from the top of his head and curve forward so that they resemble antennae. Kouhei's hair is about shoulder-length, and he has purple eyes. Usually his hair covers his left eye. He has a slim build. From a distance, one could probably mistake him for a female, and even up-close, his androgynous features could leave his gender a mystery. Kouhei usually wears a rather traditional detective's outfit, consisting of a grey longcoat (with a purple shirt underneath it) and black jeans. Kouhei usually carries his wallet with him, as well as a strange knife that seems like an ornamental knife, not meant for fighting.

Reasoning and Personality: Kouhei can seem rather odd to other people, or at least unusually quiet at times. In truth, he often thinks about rather deep topics, contemplating the meaning of life and death, the world in general, emotions, and just about anything. He occasionally voices these thoughts as well, which can be off-putting to other people. Kouhei's sense of humor is also a bit strange, in that it can seem like he doesn't have one, but he actually can make a joke... it's just hard to tell if he's joking or being serious at times. Kouhei doesn't tend to get close to other people, but if someone shows an understanding of how he thinks or shows that they're determined to get to know him better, he can warm up to them. It's difficult to classify Kouhei as either an optimist or a pessimist, as even he's not sure which one he is. Overall, it's difficult to get him to feel emotions openly.

During Logic Battles, Kouhei is a bit strange in that he doesn't have a particular "style" that he uses. Usually though, he'll think deeply about everything that's considered, and when he DOES come up with a theory, it's hard to break. The downside to this is that he spends a lot of time on theories, so he's usually the last one to come up with a theory, unless he's notably inspired. If he has to counter a theory, he'll usually ask questions about his opponent's theory, and slowly discredit it by mentioning more likely possibilities.

Skills: As mentioned previously, Kouhei has an androgynous appearance. If needed for any reason, he can easily disguise himself as a female, and even change his voice to a convincing female voice. Also, while probably not a "skill", he's fluent in both English and Japanese, and knows the basics of some other languages as well. It's also nearly impossible to instill fear in Kouhei, so he'll willingly take on the most disturbing and creepiest of cases without even flinching. Also probably not a skill, but he's oddly well-versed in most board games that involve strategy. Also, despite his weak physical strength (see Weaknesses) he can take a surprising amount of punishment without giving up.

Weaknesses: His personality can make it difficult for other detective's to speak with him. In addition, he may spend too much time thinking, so a theory is only likely to come from him later in the investigation. Also, while he keeps it a secret, Kouhei has a very minor form of heart disease. Given that he regularly takes pills for it though, and how minor it is, it just makes him weaker than the average person in a physical fight. In addition, some witnesses may feel uneasy speaking to him, and may not wish to share information with him.

Backstory: Mostly unknown, as Kouhei usually doesn't talk about his past. What is known is that he was a Japanese citizen, who apparently excelled in his studies at school. He claims to have two sisters, though he hasn't mentioned any other family. Kouhei has said that he used to dabble in the occult, but he has never given any specifics on exactly what that means. What is known is that he's apparently studying to be a Strategist of some kind, likely a Military Strategist, and is dabbling into mysteries in order to hone his thinking skills. Which most people find rather odd, but that just makes it better for him. Kouhei joined the SIA in a rather strange way. Basically, after getting rejected due to having no experience, he followed some investigators in a certain case, and successfully managed to best them in Logic Battles and provide the most likely theory in a crime. He was hired after that.

Though most of his past is unknown, some suspect that Kouhei is actually an amnesiac. Whether or not that's true remains to be seen, and only if Kouhei feels like sharing.

Spoiler : Nathan Parker :
Username: Edgeworth1001
Character Name: Nathan Parker
Age: 27
Appearance: Dark brown shoes, black pants, an white shirt with small red stripes, a brown leather jacket, and sandy blonde hair
Reasoning and Personality: Parker has a sense of humor and is sarcastic at times, but he's always take his cases seriously. He take time to think about the case, and see how the clues and witnesses could be either useless or connected to the case at hand. He try to comfort stress suspects, and always cares for civilian's and detective's safety. He always carry a gun in case there's a shootout.
Skills: Nate can notice tiny details, can pick locks, uses his fists and the environment as his weapons at time
Weaknesses: Shoots at the wrong person or item at times, gets amnesia if he's drunk, can't drive a motorcycle very well
Backstory: Parker was once a best and young detective in Chicago, he'd had it all, frame, fortune, respect, everything he ever wanted. But one day, after the crime wave hit, he found his wife dead and everyone think that it was him. Under too much pressure and being followed by his follow cops and being questioned by the press all the time, he left his job in Chicago and drove out of town. Looking for a new job, he found Slumber Investigations Agency. Without any reason why to go back to Illinois, he took the job in the agency, as he tries to climb his way back to the top again.

Spoiler : Giovanni Balotelli :
Username: Reyson Incarnate
Name: Giovanni Balotelli
Age: 27
Appearance: Giovanni has shoulder-length black hair that he ties back in a ponytail, as well as a bit of stubble on his chin. He is also rather tall, about 6' 6". He also wears a blue trench coat and a black short sleeved polo shirt. He rolls up the sleeves on the jacket to a little below the elbows. Beneath his coat he conceals his gun, a revolver. Balotelli wears black pants that he tucks into his boots, which go up to the knee. He also wears a watch on his right arm.
Reasoning and personality: Giovanni's deductions often require concrete evidence, and will spend most of the investigation finding evidence at the crime scene and examining it, leaving others to talk to witnesses. During times in which he must present an argument, he relies on his evidence to do the talking. He will also use the evidence to conttradict the claims of others. He is very confident in his work, and doesn't accept criticism well if there is no proof to back up the claims.
Weaknesses: Giovanni can be quite cocky at times, and also requires evidence to make accusations.
Backstory: Giovanni was born in Italy, and came over from there at the age of 14. He became very interested in the law and its upholding, and strived to be a detective since a young age.

Spoiler : Rogeroitoelabackintaberoshkyin Danmalcalobybarashibomen Smith :

Username: Twilight Gavin

Name: Rogeroitoelabackintaberoshkyin Danmalcalobybarashibomen Smith

Age: 14

Appearence: Roger is a boy who does not have a single sense of fashion, supplied by how he only looks in a mirror once every half-year. Although his hair is only neck-length, it is completely and grassily green due to bathing in chlorine. He's lucky that it doesn't reach any higher than the top of his head. Roger is mistaken for being an albino at times, but his weird obsession with making himself seem "different" (read: weird) grew into an obsession with talcum powder. You do the math. His wardrobe is extensive, and when I say that, I MEAN it. He has tank tops of all colors, T-shirts, Kackis, swimsuits, WOMEN'S swimsuits for Halloween and his birthday, pink panties, sunglasses, fake beards, hair clips, and outfit combinations that make him look like a complete [Censored. Please be Polite!]!!! I'll describe what he's wearing for each case.

Reasoning and Personality: Roger's reasoning can range from completely obvious to Chateau de Convoluted. In the past, he has made deductions such as "He likes ice cream, so he must be a kleptomaniac". When he does make an ounce of sense, it is usually in a battle of logic. He'll need time to discover the "good" bits of evidence that others might see immediately, but he has a knack for finding things on the evidence that people can't see with the naked eye. In fact, he has abnormal 20/20 vision.

When confronted by anyone, Roger will try to battle them best he can. He is not known for outright being a nice person, but he shows signs of being a generally loving man that will take care of anything he is entrusted. As such, he is quite popular and VERY outspoken. However, he is only outspoken when he absolutely needs to be, and can be silent for long streches of time. It seems cliche, but here's the twist: Whenever Roger is proven wrong, he immediately holds a grudge against the person who did it. He gets back at them in any way possible. ANY. WAY. POSSIBLE. Roger is very good at planning because of large experience with revenge.

Skills: Roger's mother is an acrobat. His father is a kleptomaniac. His 10 brothers and sisters all strive to be nurses. Roger is apart from his family most of the time, allowing him to learn things he couldn't learn with them. One day, he escaped from a fire by jumping off the roof of his hometown's cathedral. This shows that he is quite the stuntman. Roger can pilot an entertainment plane without breaking a sweat, become hit with many glass objects and blunt objects, and can shoot a .45 with no injury and pixel-perfect accuracy!

Weaknesses: Roger is a gynophobic. That means he's afraid of women.
Roger is not easily provoked, but he can go on for an hour and a half with incessant babble that drives the detectives (including him) away from the case.

Backstory: Do you think I'm going to type a backstory at 11 PM? I don't think so.

I have a question. You said in the OP that detective novels are canon. Can our detective be related to, for example, Sherlock Holmes? Just curious, not really planning on doing that.
Spoiler : :

Of course, this character design is typical DLA :XD: . I also like how he's so afraid of spiders that he freaking cuts their homes apart, even when they're outside. Ah~Accepted. And, for the record, yes that is what I meant by Detective novels are canon. Since, you know, Holmes would be dead by the year 4012.

Three questions:

1. How advanced is this futuristic world of 4012

2. What do you think of making a seperate "office" thread for detectives not on duty.

3. What do you think about (for organization reasons) giving each case a seperate thread then linking them back to the office thread (if you so choose to make.)

Well, we can have more sci-fi cases but should still stay within reason. Eg. No alien ones, technology ones perhaps.
2. What do you think of making a seperate "office" thread for detectives not on duty.
I like that idea. This will be the actual office thread once we begin.
3. What do you think about (for organization reasons) giving each case a seperate thread then linking them back to the office thread (if you so choose to make.)
I think, I'd rather have the office thread link to the page number of each case. So we don't clutter the forum.

Okay, I think all the answers make sense.

OOOO~ Can I do a case involving the civil rights of AI? I've always been interested in that.

If you enter and win the first case, you're in charge my friend~!

Also, glad to hear it Sleuth. I really just want to see a nice game of deduction here so...Let's see how well this takes off.

Eeeeh. Why not? I'm bored and this could be interesting. ^_^

Spoiler : :

Skills: My character can fly and read minds and he never loses because everyone likes him and he has the ability to make everyone tell the truth. I 'dunno. He's smart and understands people.

Is it okay if we:
1. Have a partner under the same username (two characters)
2. Have a character that is form a movie/TV/game/comic/book (Cole Phelps)
