How about asking if the lighting of the match caused his death somehow, directly or indirectly?
I'm way too inactive to actually ask questions and participate in the discussion. Auto-assume I give consensus.

Even if he didn't burn to death, maybe his corpse was burnt after he died.
We could also try to figure out exactly how he died.

Well let's think about what a match can really do. First of all, we know he didn't want to die and that it was somehow unintentionally caused by someone else... which could mean someone else made a silly mistake.
The first thing you think is that the match would ignite something, but we know he didn't burn to death. That leaves... well, what else does a match do? Light up the place? If he did simply do it in order to see something, how could that have resulted in his death unintentionally caused by someone else? Considering the other person didn't mean to kill him, it probably wasn't just something like "he made light in a dark place, someone else then saw it and killed him"...
Hmmm...

The man lit the match to do something, like light a cigarette, somebody saw the light and killed him. Who said the the other person didn't want to kill him? Or maybe, it's because it's the wrong target?

I... actually have no clue why I assumed that the other someone didn't want to kill him. I think I misread the hint, whoops. ^^" Guess I can still stick to the "making light somehow killed him". Then again.... probably somewhat indirectly. GAV Y U NO DEFINE PROPERLY?
