He doesn't appear to be bothered in the least, I thought. Or perhaps I'm not trying hard enough?
No, there was something about him; he was a much more interesting person than I'd initially thought.
"...I'd rather not talk to that man, actually," I replied, flipping my hair and dropping the grin. I spoke now in my typical cool tone (besides, the other voice hurts even my ears) and gazed idly at the boy. "You're certainly an odd fellow. What's your name?"

I thought about the question that I had been asked. My name... well, there was no reason to lie. I had given my real name when I had joined the Agency, after all. There would be absolutely no point in lying, other than to see if she would react if I gave a completely ridiculous fake name. I could come up with one, but I decided not to.

"An odd fellow...? If by 'odd', you mean I'm not like most other people, then you're absolutely right. But under that definition, most of the detectives here would be pretty 'odd', wouldn't you say? Including you, I'd wager. My name is Kouhei Saito. How about you? What's your name?" I answered, and then proceeded to ask a question.

"My name is Lucia R. Violetta," I replied, almost automatically, giving a small curtsey as I did so. "And I'll take that as a compliment."
I rather liked that name, really. It wasn't my true name, as I had to keep changing that every few years, but out of all the names I'd had over the countless years, "Lucia R. Violetta" was likely my favorite. I giggled slightly; the way it rolled off the tongue was just so lovely. I had the urge to say it again, but that would be childish.
At any rate, this boy had piqued my interest. It was good to know that there was someone interesting here. The rest, while certainly bizarre-looking, all seemed rather dull and uninteresting. They may have looked distinct, but I couldn't imagine possibly enjoying myself when I could barely tell one from another.
"I'm tired of standing," I said, flicking my hair, "Hallways are no place to do business. Isn't there somewhere else in this dreadful office we could talk?"
As I spoke, I noticed a small cylindrical bulge in the boy's pocket; a bulge roughly the same size as a certain container I myself carried...
My eyes narrowed as a lovely idea popped into my mind.

Now that introductions had been made, I realized that I probably didn't have too much time to stay around and chat. I was supposed to be investigating, but honestly, the current case seemed like it could wait. Or maybe I had really strange priorities. I'm pretty sure it was one of the two, at any rate. Possibly both. I had to wonder if anyone had noticed my absence yet. Should I sneak in and pretend that I had been there all along, or did it not matter anyway? I imagined myself casually walking into the crime scene with no explanation. It was a rather amusing thought. I would probably do that, then. It seemed like the most interesting course of action.

"I'm guessing that tour is no longer a priority? I'm pretty sure there are some couches or chairs around here. Unless those are a figment of my imagination. Could be. Still, I'm afraid that I do have a case that I have to handle soon, so I won't stay around for much longer. But I don't mind showing you around quickly, or having a discussion. Which one will it be? Or would you like to talk while walking around?" I asked. I'm pretty sure that with that, I must have seemed like I didn't care about the case at all. And to be fair, I probably should be more concerned by it. But I was never one for initial investigations. I preferred having all of the information gathered, and then formulating as many theories as I possibly could.

"You're working a case?" I tapped my chin thoughtfully. "Oh, I see. You must be my replacement."
I figured that the other four shouldn't have that much trouble without me, but I suppose the boss had a mental condition forcing him to mobilize no less than 5 detectives at any given time.
"Well, I certainly wouldn't want to keep you waiting," I said, "But then again, you don't seem too concerned about this case. As long as you're here, why don't we walk a bit and chat? I could use someone to speak with. Today has been rather boring,so I'd hate to let the first interesting person I've met slip away so soon."

And so, I began walking, more or less beginning the tour. Of course, I realized how strange this was, given that I was fairly new myself. I also didn't bother making too much of an effort to memorize the building's layout, but I knew my way around. Maybe spending some time on memorizing the building's layout would actually be useful, in case I ever needed to make a quick escape for whatever reason. With all the dangers in the world, one could never be too sure. I realized that now, we didn't have an actual topic of conversation. Talking about the weather would be boring, so I would recommend a more interesting topic.

"So, do you believe in the Occult? I get the feeling that you have, or at least something similar to it. Oh, and don't take that as an insult. I've dabbled in it myself." I asked.

The occult? Where did that come from?

"I don't particularly care for that sort of thing," I replied, "But I suppose I can't really discredit it, either. I prefer not to meddle in affairs outside my realm of interest."

I decided to pry a bit.

"I hate to change the subject so abruptly, but I'd like to hear your opinions regarding the case."

Her reaction was interesting to me. I don't know why, but there was something different about Lucia. Something about her that struck me as one of those people that Rei would always insist was probably some sort of supernatural being sent for whatever reason. It was strange. I hadn't seen either of my siblings in years, and yet I couldn't forget them. That was probably for the best. I would never want to forget them. The memories I had of both of them were precious to me. Even if I regarded my memory as being somewhat poor, I would never forget the time I had spent with them. But now wasn't the time to daydream about the past. I decided to answer Lucia's question.

"Well, it's Arson along with Murder, which is a refreshing change of pace. Murder alone is too common. Besides that... I'm rather interested by the fact that it seems like everyone treats these cases like races. Since you haven't had a case yet, you might not know what I mean, but it seems like some of the detectives care more about finishing the case as quickly as possible instead of finding the best possible answer." I said. I then finally noticed that I was talking a lot more than I usually did. Well, thinking about it, most people apparently thought I was strange, and avoided talking to me. Lucia probably still considered me strange, but in her case, that seemed to be a reason to talk to me, rather than avoid me.

"Oh, so there's a bit of a competetive drive in this agency?" I said, "How quaint. I must imagine that they step on each others' toes quite a bit, especially with five detectives at once!"

I gave a bemused grin as a mental cartoon of four fools chasing each other in circles popped into my mind.

"Not that I mind a bit of competition; if I don't get a challenge every once in a while, provingnmy superiority is no fun at all. Though I worry I may not get that challenge here. But who knows? You might make an amusing foe."

I realized that I was rambling, and returned to my usual cool demeanor.

"But on the other hand, having so many people running around might keep EVERYONE from finding the truth, so I see your point."

I returned to the main question. "So, you don't mind working such a mundane mystery?"

A mundane mystery? Well, honestly, this case didn't seem like the most interesting case ever. An interesting case would involve cults, maybe a horrifying method of murder, and hopefully several suspects that were all suspicious and acted paranoid. Of course, I was probably getting my hopes up. My cases so far hadn't been too exciting. Actually, I was sort of disappointed that this would be my fourth case. In Japan, the number four was associated with death. Sure, this was still a murder case, but I had really wanted something more interesting. Maybe a case with more than one victim.

"Mundane mysteries still make for good experience. Besides, if every case was exciting, then even the unique cases would become mundane eventually, wouldn't you say? Having some normal cases makes the special ones that much better." I replied.

I smiled.

"I suppose. It might be good to have a few mundane murders now and again. But as for me, I've had nothing but mundane murdered for the past..."

I caught my tongue; I had almost said "twenty years" which wouldn't make any sense, considering I looked about sixteen or seventeen. It might raise his suspicions, or it might not, but I couldn't take that chance.
It wasn't that I distrusted him; I'd somehow gotten very comfortable with him even in such a short time, but I had to keep my "curse" under wraps as much as possible; you never know what kind of people would kill for it.

"...few years," I finished quickly. I was a little upset now, because I couldn't talk about some of my better past cases. And that thought reminded me...

"What about you?" I asked, "What were your past cases like?"

My past cases... that was an interesting question. It really depended on what she meant by past cases. If only my cases as part of the SIA were counted, then they were all pretty boring. Or at least not very exciting.

"Not very interesting, honestly. There's only one good mystery I've been a part of, and that was in the past. It was about..."

I quickly thought over what I was going to say. I couldn't reveal the full details about that specific case. Not only was it pretty insane, but even if I did mention it, it would take very long to tell Lucia about it. Not to mention it would require me to explain a lot about my past, as well as several other people's pasts. It would be best to be vague, or at least tell a half-truth in this situation. I could never forget about that mystery, but I hated remembering certain parts about it.

"... 4 years ago. It was a triple-homicide. It was rather exciting, but it would take a long time to tell." I said quickly, technically not lying.

Since you're giving him a tour, I assume you're walking into rooms.

In the room that the two were in, a phone began to ring. It was a white phone with a green display. It sat on the counter of a secretariats empty desk. Of course, the room itself was more like a spacious lounge that joined all the rooms of that floor together, with a set of coffee tables and brown leather armchairs and a large window that looked out over the surrounding area. Again the phone rung.
