The old man stood on his platform, gazing out into the great universe. His grey beard glowed with a strange white. He was nondescript, wearing large gold-rimmed glasses which reflected light in such a way that his eyes were never visible. He was known only as The Old Man.
One of the Ladies put her hand on his shoulder. "Indeed. Many great beings reside in this great creation we live in."
The Old Man looked out into the stars. "But though there are many great beings, only one can be the greatest. Is this true?"
"It is," responded the Lady.
"Then why don't we have an experiment? Why don't we see who the greatest being in all of the universes is?" The Old Man asked. "How many of you are there?"
"Eight," the lady replied.
"Good. I want each of you to go and find the greatest being you can. We will determine who is the greatest being." The Old Man smiled. "A Great Battle is about to begin."



The Great Battle is a carryover from another forum I go to. Apparently, it is extremely popular on some other forums (under the name "The Grand Battle"; I just like to embellish my names a little bit). It is a deathmatch-style fight to the death with words. First you must create a character. Then, you are all thrown into a fight. You can't just kill anybody, though- only one player per round will die. That will be decided by me and an audience selected by me (which will only become available once all the spots have filled up). Even then, the dead player will write their own death scene, dying however they choose.

The difference between this and a standard roleplay? It's a collaboration. Though you will be the main player controlling your character, others will also control your character. Not deciding all their actions for them, but writing a bit of text for them and so on. It's a collaboration- you focus on your own character, but you will also be writing lines or actions for other characters. This is why it is important that your characters have strong personalities; other players will be writing for them, so make their characterization strong.DO NOT OVERDO IT. Make sure MOST of your writing concerns your own player and you'll be fine.

Also, your responses- while there is no set requirement for length- should be fairly long and in paragraph format. i.e., not: *player goes here* "There you are!" *attacks*. There are no warnings: you don't post in paragraph format, you are OUT. Period. Don't sign up if you are not willing to at least skim long posts.

Otherwise, just have fun! This is a semi-serious roleplay, so humor is obviously allowed, but include at least some serious stuff.

There are no requirements for characters, as long as they are well-written and their personality is strong. They can be as insane as you want; for instance, the character I am using in my other forum is a computer virus given physical form. To sign up, just fill out the following form and post it in this topic:

Username: Does this need an explanation?
Character Name: Again, no explanation needed.
Race/Species: Where is your character from? What is it?
Color: The color you will use for your posts. Every user needs to use a different color to post in, so we don't get each other's characters and posts confused.
Weapons/Abilities: What can your character do? What makes them so special to be chosen for this fight?
Description: Well...duh. Physical appearance and personality traits.
Backstory: Where did your character come from? How did they get into a position to be selected for this competition?

Also, two last notes:
1. Your character has no idea how they entered the competition. They don't sign up- they just find themselves in the competition.
2. Obviously, this game will be composed of long posts. To give yourself time to write and to prevent "post-sniping"- someone fitting in a game-changing response while you are still typing yours- post the word "Reserved." You will have one and a half hours to type your response (by editing the post where you typed "Reserved"). After an hour and a half, anyone is free to continue the game by posting "Reserved". You can reserve a spot in the signups, but the 1.5 hour rule applies here too. Also, ABSOLUTELY NO "STACKING" RESERVES. Only one person may reserve at a time.

Race/Species: Dragon.

Weapons/Abilities: Drayce can controltime to a limited degree, such as freezing it for one or two seconds, and is a master of fire (duh). His wings grant him the capability of flight, and when he farts (lol) he can shoot forward like a bullet. Besides that, he has a normal dragon's abilities. Like clawing, biting, etc.
Description: 1) Well, he looks like a blue dragon. He has grotesque wings designed for long flights, and a crystal in his chest, with which he "controls" time. His jagged teeth are big enough to tear an elephant into pieces. There are tiny holes in his neck, through which sometimes bolts of fire are released.
2) His personality... he's usually calm and arrogant, except in serious cases. During such times, his ferocious mind takes over, and his fighting capabilities are revealed. The downside is that he can sometimes not recognise an ally he has only recently met. His mind blurs them, and therefore, he can't tell them apart from his enemies.
Backstory: Drayce came from an alternate dimension, ruled solely by dragons. There, he was one of the 12 Great Sages, which put his magical capabilities above one's imagination. However, upon arriving at the competition, he lost a lot of his powers. His powers were accustomed to the alternate dimension, and would have to become accustomed to their surroundings once again.

Let's see if this works.

Description: Male, blond hair, very strong. Xin has a very short temper, and if angered, he lashes out.

Backstory: Born on the island of Shyti, he was expelled from his school after he lashed out at another student and nearly killed them. He was disowned by his parents, and ran away to the forest. There, he was discovered by the Tribe of the Great Warriors. After he was accepted into the tribe, he quickly ascended through the ranks, and eventually rose to the Elite status. At 15 years of age, he is the youngest member of the tribe to reach Elite status, and is regarded as one of the best, if not THE best, fighter in the Tribe.

Description:

Backstory: Was ignored from ALMOST (almost the most word used!) everyone, and tried to make them talk. He developed black magic, and cross from the reverse's alternative world to the reverse, where everyone is nicer. Then the move to the real world, and they are half good, and half bad.

Weapons/Abilities: Sympho's mass is dependant on whatever she wants it to be at the time. She can be microscopic, the size of a normal human or larger than a planet. As she is composed entirely of tentacles, she is free to use as many to attack as she wants from any direction. Her blood sprouts even more tentacles, being composed of liquid they are harder to destroy than ever and due to a lack of any internal organs she cannot be killed by conventional methods. Simply blasting a big hole in her does nothing. In the same way she can change her size she can also change her shape and where her tentacles are. The changes happen instantly.
Description: Physically, she's a mass of cyan coloured tentacles. As she can change her form at will as explained above, her specific appearance varies. In public, she tends to take the shape of an ordinary human. When alone, she makes herself as large as she wants. When entering a battle, she also makes herself huge for the sake of intimidation, however if the area needs it she'll limit her size.

In terms of personality, she is oblivious to the impact of things such as death. As she has not taken the time to take part in any society she often says whatever's on her mind without any thought. This usually involves criticising something in some way or boasting. She is extremely arrogant yet almost childishly so, she could be tearing someone to shreds yet talk like nothing of the sort is happening. She is generally cheerful and in minor ways, can be easily fooled. Yet beneath all that is a thinker even she isn't aware of, who keeps misleading from being her downfall and occasionally even thinks up a good idea.
Backstory: On an extremely far away planet filled with tentacle monsters, Sympho was requested to retrieve something which had found its way into orbit by her less than responsible mother. Sympho ended up so lost up in space that she drifted many light years from her home planet and ended up living in a variety of different places, never settling down and causing much havoc for the thrill of it. She thought nothing of being lost, as she wasn't on her home planet long enough to care about it. Her destruction across the universe earned her a reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

Weapons/Abilities: Actually, Christoph can read, write, and speak a whole lot of languages. It just seems easy to him, so he's a very good translator. (Languages include: English, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, and Greek. I more or less selected these at random.) Christoph is physically rather weak however, so in a fight he improvises.
Description: Christoph is slightly pale and has black hair and brown eyes. He is somewhat short for someone his age. He's 19 years of age right now. He usually wears a lot of gray, blue, or black. Personality wise, Christoph is somewhat anti-social, and a bit timid. However he is kind to those he can consider a friend. Christoph is somewhere in the middle of being cynical and idealistic. Christoph is also rather calm most of the time and it almost seems like he doesn't know how to be angry at someone. Christoph is rather confused about why he was picked, considering his lack of strength or speed. He actually thinks he was chosen as some kind of sick, cruel joke.
Backstory: Christoph was raised only by his father from a very young age. His mother had died when Christoph was young, but his father refused to give any details. Christoph's father was working almost all of the time, so Christoph never really knew the warmth of a parent. However, when he did well in school Christoph's father was happy, so Christoph studied a lot, including learning a lot of languages. He was never able to make any friends though. At nineteen years of age, Christoph is in college. He doesn't want to be there, but he's there.

riw, we are going to need more explanation. An original character would be better, but if you do use an existing character, then we need more explanation (or at least a link to the wiki). And you need to pick a color to post in.

Also, I forgot to mention, I need to be able to use black (sorry Singapore, but could you choose a different color please? Sorry I forgot to mention that). And Treuth, could you also pick another color? Depending on the forum style the players are using, yellow is too hard to read.

Description: Bright red eyes, about 5'4", short black hair, fangs. He's arrogant, rude and selfish. He will most likely ignore you unless you get in his way. He's always in search of a good fight, and picks fights with those he thinks is worthy of his strength.
Backstory: 200 years ago, Mysa was banished from Hell, being forced to live in the world of the living in a human form. In blind fury, Mysa terrorized a nearby village. His rampage was stopped by a mysterious hero who bested him in a battle. After losing to the mysterious hero, Mysa vowed he would get stronger and someday have a re-match with the hero. After 200 years of training he has become one of the 8 strongest beings in the universes.
