Behold my entry to the April-July 2012 competition, which I affectionately and practically dub tro*(lo)^10. Originally designed to introduce myself to the editor while still producing a respectable trial, that scripting for Turnabout Proxy and the release of the competition were only a day apart proved far too attractive. Despite it being my first trial, I entered, and I must say that I am quite happy with the 4500+ frame game that I have produced for you all. Do note that this trial emphasizes the deception aspect of trolling over the umad aspect, although I can safely say that both are included. Enjoy the game.
Story: One year before the events of Apollo Justice, Phoenix Wright is in a bit of a bind. His adoptive daughter, Trucy, has been accused of bank robbery. He has been disbarred, and Kristoph Gavin, with his perfectly polished pointer, is out of the city. He instead gets Miles Edgeworth to do the job. To solve this case, Edgeworth must suffer through such things as a trial within a trial, a bipolar witness, questionable evidence, psycholocks and hearing loss. Somebody is going to get trolled.
Art Drajo Apartments, Bank of the People and Jordur's Apartment backgrounds taken from the Ceres sprite pack, as linked by Tap. (Minor edits to Jordur's Apartment done by Enthalpy.) Friendship is Magic background taken from the relevant television show. Mask and Wig created by Enthalpy.
Music Dee Jordur ~ A Child Not Basking in the Glow of Love: Driftveil City from Pokémon Black and White Spirit of Glase Canon: Dan's Theme from Super Street Fighter IV Rickrolled: Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley
All work not cited belongs to or is derived from art or music in the Ace Attorney series. Ace Attorney is property of Capcom.
Special thanks to DudeWithAMask and Tap for beta-testing, without whom this trial would not be of nearly the caliber it is now.

The links are to the editor, not the actual trials. Just saying.
My browser crashed in the middle of type the post. (That was one reason for the delay, another being that I didn't get home until about two hours ago.) I must have changed "editeur" to "jeu" after I saved my draft but before the crash. Fixed.

Okay, I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. A few quick thoughts...
Spoiler : :
Great use of Edgeworth here. And his presence justifies the use of the AAI Objection theme, which is a variant of his theme music.
I like how the contrast between Phoenix and Edgeworth is emphasized throughout the trial. Edgeworth, unlike Phoenix, does not like to bluff. He would prefer always having evidence to back up his claims. That's the way he does it in the confrontations during his investigations, and as a prosecutor he will often demand evidence from the defense to back up their claims.
Our star witness is quite an interesting character. I can't say I recognize her music, but I like it.
Great use of the Canadian Judge. Not only does he think Edgeworth is a defense attorney, but we also get to see the Hoser Inquisition.
The Hoser Inquisition is great stuff! Loved all of it. Especially the one bit referencing one of my all-time favorite fancase characters, Luna von Doppelbohringen.
And the end of it after you've found the right 'hoser', parodying the failure messages, is genius!
I'll probably have more to say later. But all in all, I'd have to say this is pretty good.
Spoiler : Well I certainly didn't see that twist coming. :
You get a premature 500% approval.
I'm honored. Hopefully by the end, it'll be closer to 600%

I'm glad that I was able to use him so well. In a lot of the first-time trials I've seen, characterization of the protagonist can be a bit off.
For the most part, I stuck with AAI tracks. There are some obvious exceptions, like the Defendant's Lobby theme, which isn't in AAI for obvious reasons.

You think that's a contrast? You haven't seen anything yet.

Ah, yes, Dee Jordur. Coming up with that is an interesting story, actually. The original plan called for rage the whole way through, but then I looked at Ini's sprite sheet and saw that she only had two emotions like that. I wondered how I was going to handle this, and then I got the idea of having her change from furious to ditzy, the opposite of her 2-2 personality. I was really happy with how it turned out.
As for the theme, Driftveil City from Pokémon Black and White.
Great use of the Canadian Judge. Not only does he think Edgeworth is a defense attorney, but we also get to see the Hoser Inquisition.
Thank you. The judge's brother is an underused character, in my opinion.
The Hoser Inquisition is great stuff! Loved all of it. Especially the one bit referencing one of my all-time favorite fancase characters, Luna von Doppelbohringen.
For that part, I knew that I needed something completely over-the-top to liven the trial up a bit and showcase Edgeworth's logic skills. (Now you know why you see the logic montage before you make Edgeworth's deductions in AAI.) I also knew that the judge couldn't resist throwing in hosers when Egeworth mentioned incompetence, so out came the Inquisition.
And yes, I must admit that Luna is also one of my favorite characters from a Blackrune trial. Maria has to take first-place, though. I haven't played Pairs yet, but that's high up on my list.
And the end of it after you've found the right 'hoser', parodying the failure messages, is genius!
Hosers are serious business, after all.
I'll probably have more to say later. But all in all, I'd have to say this is pretty good.
Comments in the spoiler.

W.......Why is a bank open at midnight? .__.
Two reasons. First, it's the Bank of the People, and the people who don't believe in ATM's need to make midnight withdrawals and everybody can make deposits! (Seriously, some people think that the use of ATM's is responsible for the current US recession because of layoffs of bank clerks.) Secondly and most importantly, the darkness makes it harder to see. So if a dark figure comes in at midnight, the guard has some excuse for missing critical details and, inexplicably, spotting others. Considering who the guard is, don't think too hard about it.

I really like how there's unique failure convo for each person in the Hoser Inquisition, but you should get another special convo if you do Edgey+Badge and/or Udgey+Badge xP
Well, Gumshoe seems to be okay after his humiliation in court. Good to see that he comes through for us.
The diary using My Little Pony references was a fun touch. As for the wig, I saw that coming at the end of the trial session, since I know that some wigs are made with human hair.
I was wondering what was up with the Psyche-Locks, especially since there was no Magatama in sight. But it was certainly a way of wrapping up a case that I don't think I've ever seen before.
Come to think of it, this may in fact be a first. Many cases begin with an investigation and conclude with a trial, but this is the first time I've seen it done the other way around. And the way it was done here worked perfectly. It fit in with the story and with the characters.
Once the connection to Sawhit was made, I easily guessed her motive. It just goes to show that everyone has families, even burglars who commit felony murder and get their crimes uncovered by certain attorneys.
And yes, I figured out that Phoenix had already figured out the motive for framing Trucy, hence his apparent apathy.
Loved Oldbag's appearance, and the 'Rickroll'. It was made all the more hilarious by the lyrics being recited. Seriously, that scene had me laughing out loud.
I thought that would be the ending, but then we have Edgeworth get a call from Payne, and then Edgeworth brilliantly explains why Payne's always losing.
As for Edgeworth worries, well hey, Phoenix was there to keep Edgeworth honest in the old days. Edgeworth can probably return the favor.
And the bit about relaxing with a Steel Samurai marathon was a nice way to end it.
All in all, this was a good Lighter and Softer (for the most part) case. All in all, I highly recommend it.
I DID however spot one glitch, though. If you return to the apartment building after you have everything you need to break the Psychelock, you won't be able to go anywhere other than the apartment and back. So once you get all the evidence updated from Gumshoe at Criminal Affairs ... DON'T GO BACK TO THE APARTMENT BUILDING!
Aside from that, this trial is on my 'highly recommended' list.
I would recommend making the hitbox for the diary bigger.
EDIT:
Spoiler : :
After you break the psyche-lock, there's a frame that says "Default Text", and then suddenly were back to WAA and stuff.
Also, since this is pre-AJ, shouldn't Nick have only been accused twice of murder?
Also, for that final final present, I presented the gun, Nick, and Trucy, all thinking exactly what the solution actually was. It would be nice if they (or at least one) also was treated as correct.
I probably will for Edgeworth and the Badge, but I'm not convinced on the judge. The Glase Canon present is just too well-received to risk players missing it.
"Default text"? Weird. None of my beta-testers reported that... I'll look into it.
Yes, it should only be twice. Error on my part. It will be fixed when judging is complete.
The schedule is honestly the best piece of evidence, as it alone proves that Trucy had a performance after the gun was stolen, proving that she knew about it.
Spoiler : Response to Esrom :
Three cheers for troll evidence. We have a gun that is really a prop, a mask with hair from a dead person that is actually from a wig, and a journal on ponies that proves a motive.
Thank you! Phoenix's grand reveal was my favorite scene to write.
I'm glad the trial-to-investigation worked out. That was one of my main concerns, since there wasn't quite the mystery aspect.
Aren't the lyrics perfect for Oldbag and Edgeworth?
I'll look into the glitch and get it fixed once the competition ends. And thank you for your response! I'm glad you liked it.

Spoiler : :
Except if Trucy doesn't do the exact same routine every single show, she might not have necessarily known just because of the schedule xP
Also it's still a right-idea-wrong-evidence kind of thing, which are always lame =\
Huh? After presenting the wig to Dee in the DC, at the third present, it just went along without giving me the option to present, then went back to the start of the conversation...
