Yes, that's exactly correct. The purpose of the test is to test whether you have an understanding of the material, not if you've simply memorized it and can regurgitate it. In fact, I'm sure the reason he put the 'trick questions' on the test was in order to see who understood the material and was paying attention and who was simply memorizing facts without taking the time and effort to actually understand them.

It's only been two days since the last update, but I've made some great progress on the Sirens overhaul. I'm pleased to say that Chapter 2: Trial has been completely overhauled... With a completely new ending consisting of a third cross-examination for Scarlet, changes to how Oldbag's testimonies work (instead of a press-in-order, you have a maze of choices, and the triple-press has been reduced to just one) along with general dialogue touch-ups here and there...
I'm exhausted, and a bit behind on schedule. Investigative work for Sunset and Night will resume on Tuesday. Night will be the next big hurdle along with that of the latter two trials. The former I have a bug report to fix along with just changing a small section slightly while the latter needs a new present. I think I can catch up pretty easily, though~!
I'll be done soon, and then everyone who's waiting on playing will be able to experience Sirens... I'm sure you won't be disappointed as the new changes make it even better! And after waiting something like six or seven months, I'll "finally" meet the criteria Bad Player has asked for in order to get a general report.

Anyway, it's great to see some progress! Those sound like good improvements. I for one can't wait to start my job as beta reader. :3
I'll send you a PM when the first two parts can be beta-read~!

Ah, yes, sorry! I've completely forgotten with everything else I've done! >< I'll reply to your comments tomorrow when I won't be touching Sirens, if that's OK with you. Going from Sirens to Departed is going to confuse the heck out of me! xD

I'm glad to say that Investigation ~ Sunset has gone through the revamping stage, and has been sent off for its testing and beta-reading. Investigation ~ Night is the next hurdle, which will have a rather significant amount done, in terms of dialogue and adding a bit more of a challenge to the investigation (hint: there's going to be a keypad code segment!)
I expect to be completely done with having fixed Sirens by the end of next week at the latest... I really want to get back to work on Departed as soon as possible while still making sure I'm revamping Sirens to the best of my ability.
For all of those who are waiting on playing Sirens, please wait a bit longer! I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

As for Hall's "Confession"... Who's to say she actually meant any of it... For all we know, the whole thing was a surgical strike aimed at Apollo. Simply put, with Hall found innocent, people will STRONGLY suspect Apollo of Matricide once more.
Her 'confession' at the end of Sirens? I'll confirm it that she did mean it at the time, but during the couple of days before her trial, she somehow did a complete personality reversal, which of course, led to her being found "Not Guilty". This personality reversal will be a subject covered during Investigation ~ of the Sun and the Moon. It also ties into the politics of the JM-verse.
But yes... we will see Sirens return to haunt Apollo, more so in Memoirs since that's when everything begins to come together in one big bang. It won't go as far as Apollo being retried, since the bellboy has been found guilty of that, but we will hear murmurs...
Also, I'm sure a loophole in Double Jeopardy can be found, if you look hard enough... Because the uniform was stricken from the record, Hall DOES have the right to ask for a retrial, since, technically, the "Not Guilty" verdict was found based on illegal evidence... Maybe that's why she's so smug: Because, if Apollo starts to win, she'll casually mention that little fact...?
Yes, there is a loophole in 'Double Jeopardy', which is fraud. If pursued, Apollo's trial was technically found on illegal, bordering on forged evidence, which prevented him from being placed in 'jeopardy' to begin with... The same right could also be applied to Phoenix in 4-1 as well when you think about it...
Scarlet knows this, and I guarantee she will mention it, but not until Investigation ~ Sun, though.
Plus, Chances are that Judge Chambers ( ) isn't going to be NEARLY as forgiving as normal this time, once Hall casually mentions Apollo using forged evidence to get himself off the hook... And, for those who wonder how Apollo could be held accountable... He DID know exactly what room it was hidden in, despite having been held in detention for the past 2 days.....
Oh, yes... we've seen Judge when confronted with the accusations of illegal and forged evidence before, so Apollo's in for a world of pain. Hall has her own testimony -- not really a spoiler, since I'm not giving away why and what she testifies about -- but let me say it'll be incredibly damaging to Apollo's own reputation. I love the themes of forgery... really adds another level to the case.
Finally, if all else fails, Hall has one final trump to play: The fact that Apollo IS guilty of violating a police cordon on her identity. This effectively bars Apollo from being anywhere NEAR a court of law, since he technically has a criminal record right now. Pretty sure that an attorney who breaks a law is ineligible to stand in court before a disciplinary council meeting...
Mm... no, not quite. Had he not accepted her 'request' to become a defense attorney, he definitely would have a criminal record, pending the Bar Association Review Board coming together, of course.
Sorry for such a long spoiler, but some might not know about any of this... Finally, about the President's death, if it DID occur this time, Hall has TECHNICALLY already beaten Apollo... People already think he's a crooked attorney, since knowledge that he accused an innocent woman to save his own butt is known, but if he wins this case, there will always be talk that he forged evidence to win this one, too.... Kristoph's legacy seems to be catching up to Mr. Justice.....
Yes, reputation is going to play a very important theme in Justice's Memoirs alongside that of political issues of a time, social values, judicial action, attorney conduct, forgery... In particular, Memoirs will really surround all of them, especially reputation. Departed starts it off, and Memoirs takes it to its fullest extent.
Kristoph might not have appeared directly so far, but yes... he's playing a frontbench role while still lurking in the shadows.

I just had a REALLY crazy thought... I wonder if, like Maya in case 4, I just cracked a criminal mastermind, slightly...
IS this Scarlet Hall?? After all, miss Justice at the end is supposed to be dead, and doesn't recognize Apollo at all... Maybe there's a master of disguise or two at work here... One to pretend to be Hall, another to claim to be Miss Justice...?
And, assuming that Thalassa is NOT the one who died in that first epilogue...(Since that would be sadistic, even for an AAO creator! ) What if it was Hall??? She DID fail them, and... It's already been seen the smuggling ring held some clout in the past... What if.....?

Ah, I love those themes too. <3 Looks like Apollo has a lot of angst waiting for him. xD
Definitely! He's in for a world of pain...

We'll see more of her in Investigation ~ Sun, which from my overview, is incredibly long...

I guess I'm sadistic, then. Thalassa has passed away, unfortunately...

Shouldn't it be "Investigation ~ Day" or something...? (It's not like you had "Investigation ~ Moon" in MSAT)
Nope! Investigation of the Sun (Chapter 3) occurs from the early hours of the morning until the evening, which is when Investigation of the Moon (Chapter 4), naturally takes over... ^^
I liked the idea of having Sunset/Night-styled investigations, but because Chapter 3 & 4 are a complete day of investigation rather than just six or seven hours after a trial, "Twilight" or "Dusk" didn't really fit for a day-time investigation...

Here are some suggestions for the chapter titles of MSAT.
Chapter 1: The Big Beginning Chapter 2: The Exciting Middle Part Chapter 3: The Final Ending

I think you forgot a couple of chapters in between them...

Minor MSAT update: Screenshots
Just a couple of screenshots from one of the new scenes from Investigation ~ Night. Should have Night done by tomorrow, most likely, but no guarantees since it's the part with the most work needed~!
Spoiler : Spoilers for Night~! :
I don't do grammar very well this late at night, so probably I'm overlooking a big mistake, xD

I guess you could change "which" to "that". Also, it's usually: "...get the better of me."
Spoiler : :
Actually, shouldn't it be "... gets the better of me."?

I second that. I don't see any grammatical issues.
